What happened
On 26 August 2026, a mass of ice and rock broke loose in the Himalayas. The wave of water, mud and debris that followed swept away villages, roads and bridges along the rivers. Thousands of people died or are still missing. The news has moved on. The consequences have not.
Why this reaches our shelves
For us, Nepal was never a country on the news. It is the people whose work fills our shelves. A handful of the brands we carry work with makers there. BeYoona is one of them. Since 2019, BeYoona has worked with Nepalese craftswomen. Their products are made by hand, in small numbers, for fair wages. We have been selling their work for years, and people keep coming back for it. The makers and their families are not strangers to us. Which is why this disaster has names attached to it.
What we are doing
Het Faire Oosten and BeYoona are joining forces to raise money for the people affected.
